WARWICK, RI
– Ashley Kalus, the Republican candidate for governor, released the below statement following the General Assembly’s failure to make education a constitutional right.

“How many times do our leaders have to let us down before we say enough is enough,” Kalus said. “It’s a disgrace that the General Assembly has failed to make education a constitutional right. Every child, regardless of race, religion, or zip code, deserves a world-class education.

“Education – a quality public education – is the great equalizer. It allows for the pursuit of economic opportunity. We need to make education a constitutional right, pay our teachers more, fund universal Pre-K, invest in technical education, rework our funding formula to ensure communities most in need like Pawtucket, Woonsocket, and Central Falls are not being left behind, and promote school choice because no child should ever be trapped in a failing school.

“I will be the Education Governor. I will fight for equality in educational instruction. Together, we can reform our system and make Rhode Island the example of what an education turnaround looks like.”
