SUPERMAN BUILDING COST PROVES TO BE TAXPAYERS’ KRYPTONITE

“WHILE OUR CHILDREN DON’T HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO SCHOOL — DAN MCKEE IS FOCUSING ON GIVING MILLIONS TO CRONIES”

WARWICK, RI – Today, Ashley Kalus, the Republican nominee for governor, released the below statement following the Superman Building’s revised cost to taxpayers, while the state is simultaneously curbing RIPTA service amidst budget woes.

Kalus said, “Here’s an idea – instead of giving $69 million in corporate welfare to the developer of the Superman Building, why don’t we invest in RIPTA? Considering the average driver makes $16.75/hour – imagine how impactful even an additional $1 million would be for RIPTA’s abilities to provide services.

“It’s clear where Dan McKee’s priorities stand. When Channel 10 asked about the restriction at RIPTA and Dan McKee’s plan, he said ‘we can figure it out.’ Dan McKee knows better — he just doesn’t care. This is a failure in leadership.

“He’d rather spend millions to build 14 truly affordable apartments, rather than provide safe and reliable transportation to taxpayers. Money that can help our kids get to school and residents to work. We need a governor that is not beholden to special interests and will only work to better the lives of all Rhode Islanders.”
